Detour Maybe Saved a Life: 5 Great Things This Week
Lana Lowther was found hours after she went missing.   (Lorain, Ohio, police)

A missing child who's missing no more and a classy gesture by flight attendants were among the week's uplifting stories:

  • Spontaneous Detour Leads to Missing Child: A toddler who went missing from her home in Lorain, Ohio, one night this week was found alive hours later thanks to one man's spontaneous detour. He'd heard about the search on social media, and decided to check things out for himself.
  • 81-Year-Old Helps Nab Purse Snatchers: Two men stole the purse of an 81-year-old Pennsylvania woman and drove off, seemingly in the clear. They didn't count on their victim tailing them—and then leaving a calling card of sorts on their car that helped police track them down.
  • Airline Gives Nursing Mom a Break: Jenna Mde had to travel from Atlanta to Dallas, leaving her triplets behind. But because she breastfeeds, Mde still needed to pump during her flight—and that's where a Delta crew came through. Her post about it apparently struck a nerve.

  • Quick-Thinking Worker Saves a Puppy: A Missouri man with his dog on a leash nonchalantly entered an elevator without realizing his dog wasn't right behind him. Before the puppy could catch up, the doors closed and the dog was yanked into the air by the rising elevator. That's when maintenance worker Brian Ussery saved the day.
  • Philanthropist Helping Give Abe a Facelift: The Lincoln Memorial will be getting a much-needed facelift in the coming years thanks to an $18.5 million donation from one history-loving philanthropist. He's actually making a habit of these kinds of gifts.
