The weirdest political story of the day has got to be sentiment among some of President Obama's critics that he faked his tears during Tuesday's news conference on gun control. Well, Donald Trump is making clear that he will not be counted among the tear truthers, as they're being called. "I actually think he was sincere, I'll probably go down about 5 points in the polls by saying that, but I think he was sincere," Trump said on Fox News, as quoted by CNN. Trump added that Obama "probably means well" with his executive action on guns but that he's misguided. "Hillary Clinton is, I think, worse than Obama on the issue, frankly, she wants to take everyone's gun away."

As for those tears, they're conjuring up some doubts, snarky or otherwise:

  • Fox News contributor Andrea Tantaros suggested that Obama was faking it, reports the Hill. "I would check that podium for like a raw onion or some no-more-tears,"she said. "I mean, it’s not really believable." Meghan McCain added that Obama "didn't seem horribly authentic," notes Salon.
  • Breitbart's John Nolte tweeted that Obama touched his eyes before the tears came. Why? "He's putting something in his eyes to create the fascist tears."
