It took a shootout for the Capitals to beat the Bruins today, as Alexander Semin and Viktor Kozlov scored Washington’s two overtime goals, giving the Caps a 2-1 win. Despite losing the game the Bruins managed to move up in the standings: they’re now tied with the Rangers for sixth-place in the Eastern Conference, reports the Associated Press.

Washington’s Alex Ovechkin was a non-factor, as he failed to record a point for the first time in eight games.  Sergei Federov scored the Caps one goal in regulation, while Chuck Kobasew was the Bruins' lone scorer. The Caps are still on the outside looking in as the playoff chase winds down, two points behind the Flyers for the eighth and final spot. (More NHL stories.)
