The Democratic debate Saturday night has been a relatively subdued, substantive affair, but Martin O'Malley roused the crowd by labeling Donald Trump an "immigrant-bashing carnival barker." O'Malley made the slam when asked about whether the US should be worried about securing its border from undocumented immigrants. Instead, he made the case for a path to citizenship, declaring that the nation's symbol is the Statue of Liberty, not a border fence. O'Malley has used similar language previously against Trump, but this got the biggest applause of the debate in its first hour, notes the Atlantic live blog. (More Hillary Clinton 2016 stories.)
