This week's weird crime theme: drivers.

  • Man Gets $1.5K Ticket for Helping Dad Suffering Heart Attack: Michael O'Neil was speeding down an Illinois freeway at 82mph on Sept. 27 when he was pulled over by a state trooper, who—undeterred by O'Neil's 60-year-old father having a heart attack in the passenger seat—handed Michael a $1,500 ticket. What the trooper allegedly made O'Neil's father do is crazy.
  • Man Accused of DWI Places Blame on His Pup: Think "the dog ate my homework," but with alcohol and a motor vehicle. A deputy in Manatee County, Fla., saw a speeding car and pursued it for a few blocks until it crashed into a house. The alleged driver, 26-year-old Reliford Cooper III, was apprehended. He tried to point the finger at his pooch, but what he said wasn't exactly believable.

  • Woman Live-Streamed Her Drunk Driving, Say Cops: If the drunk-driving case against Whitney Beall goes to trial, Exhibit A will probably be her Periscope video "Drunk Girl Driving," in which she drives around talking about how drunk she is. Police in Lakeland, Fla., say the 23-year-old used the live-streaming app to upload a series of videos of herself driving drunk. Here's how she ended up arrested.
  • Florida Man Picks Absolute Worst Time to Slam Into Police Car: Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and in the wrong state of mind. Undercover police were in the process of removing almost 70 mature pot plants they had found near Tampa, Fla., when there was a crash. The crash's source: a 2007 Chevy Tahoe navigated by 25-year-old Yasiel Martinez, who allegedly rammed into the back of one of the deputy's vehicles with the deputy still inside it. His troubles weren't even close to being over.
  • Guy Busted for DUI—but He Wasn't Driving a Car: Ronny Scott Hicks learned the hard way that it is, in fact, possible to get arrested for driving under the influence even if you're not in a car. The Florida 54-year-old was taken into custody after someone called police because Hicks was allegedly obstructing traffic on a bridge in an unexpected two-wheel ride.
