Last year, cops in Manhattan say a fortune teller scammed a woman out of $217,000 on the pretext of getting a curse removed. Seemed like a lot of money, until this guy: Over the course of 20 months, the broken-hearted 32-year-old shelled out a total of $713,975 to a different fortune teller who promised to make the woman he loved love him back, reports the New York Times. (Sample payment: $80,000 to buy a "bridge of gold" in the spiritual realm.) Incredibly, the man kept up the payments even after the woman he sought died, because the fortune teller promised to reincarnate her spirit in another woman.
