Cleanup workers from the Indiana DOT probably wished they had called in sick yesterday: A tanker truck dumped (officials think accidentally) between 300 and 400 gallons of raw sewage all over an I-65 exit ramp leading onto Highway 18, the Lafayette Journal and Courier reports.
The spill led to sewage up to 6 inches deep in places, police say, and the brutal weather that's been blanketing the country led to another issue: the waste froze, becoming what the newspaper calls a "toxic poopsicle." Crews spent yesterday afternoon and evening salting, sanding, and scraping the excrement off the road, then depositing it into a dump truck to be taken elsewhere. (More Indiana stories.)
