Man Faces Life in Prison... for Swearing
George Lancelot has been in prison for eight out of the last 10 years for public-order offenses.   (Devon & Cornwall Police)

Since George Lancelot won't stop swearing at people, and authorities in Britain won't stop locking him up for doing so, he could spend the rest of his life in prison, a judge warned this week as he sent the 61-year-old to prison yet again. Lancelot has 176 public-order convictions for sweary outbursts, which his lawyer blames on a personality disorder, and he was sentenced to 20 months for violating an anti-social behavior order that prohibits him from swearing and drinking in public, the BBC reports. "I am told there is unlikely to be any psychiatric disposition to help you," the judge told Lancelot. "Unless you deal with this, you could spend the rest of your life in prison."

Lancelot has been in prison for eight out of the last 10 years. His most recent arrest came just hours after he finished another sentence, when police in Torquay arrested him for drunkenly swearing at and threatening police officers and members of the public, the North Devon Journal reports. Lancelot is mentally ill, according to his defense lawyer, who agrees that the situation seems hopeless. "If he goes into custody, he will be released and within hours he will be back here with the same outcome," he says. "He faces a life term, but I don't know what to suggest." As he was taken from court after receiving his latest sentence, Lancelot shouted, "I'd get less for burglary. F--- off." (This mom was arrested for swearing in front of her kids.)
