A 50-year-old New Jersey man was hit by a car Saturday, but, apparently not feeling he had already been punished enough, police ended up ticketing him for jaywalking. The man was found lying in the road Saturday night as police investigated a small brushfire nearby; he had apparently been struck moments before, the Star-Ledger reports. He was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, and the next day, police alleged that he:

  • was drinking before the accident
  • was not in a marked crosswalk at the time
  • was wearing dark clothing while apparently wandering in a 45mph traffic lane of a dimly-lit road

As for the 30-year-old driver, there was no indication of drug use or alcohol consumption. As for the fire, it's not clear whether it was related to the incident. (More weird crimes stories.)
