Miikka Kiprusoff had his first shutout of the season for the Calgary Flames last night and it didn't come easy. Kiprusoff had 38 saves, including 13 in the third period, to stonewall the Detroit Red Wings 1-0, reports the AP. It was the first shutout in 64 starts for Kiprusoff, dating back to March.

Alex Tanguay had the lone goal for the Flames, who won their third straight. The win moved Calgary within one point of the Northwest Division-leading Minnesota Wild and pulled the Flames into a tie with San Jose and Nashville for fifth in the Western Conference. Detroit fell to 1-6-1 in its last eight games. (More NHL stories.)
