Tiger Woods made easy 3-and-2 work of Arron Oberholser, but there was no shortage of exciting tete-a-tetes elsewhere in round two of the WGC Match Play Championship. Phil Mickelson's excellent performance was trumped by Stuart Appleby's sensational nine birdies; the lefty has yet to reach the event's quarterfinals. Also in Marana:

  • Steve Stricker was the other top seed to advance, defeating Hunter Mahan in a two-hole playoff.
  • Henrik Stenson's 25th-hole birdie won a marathon match against Trevor Immelman, who came just shy of eagle and then botched the putt.
  • Jonathan Byrd still has yet to play the 15th hole after winning 6-and-4.
