Wrapping up their longest road trip in team history, the Ducks secured their fifth straight win with a 2-1 defeat of the Avalanche. After falling behind in the first period, Anaheim got a power-play goal from Teemu Selanne in the second, and the game-winner from Samuel Pahlsson in the third, reports the Los Angeles Times. Elsewhere in the NHL:

  • San Jose outshot Calgary 43-18 but couldn't hold on long enough, letting Jarome Iginla slip in the winning goal with 24 seconds remaining in overtime for a 4-3 Flames victory.
  • Minnesota yanked goalie Niklas Backstrom after falling behind Edmonton 2-1, but the benching didn't work as an inspiration and the Oilers went on to win 4-2.
