George Bailey tried to lasso the moon, but an Arizona man apparently wanted to shoot it. Cameron Frank Read, 39, allegedly fired several rounds through the window of a residence after talking about seeing Halley’s Comet on Friday, according to his girlfriend and her teen son, reports KTVK. They ran from the Prescott Valley home, hearing more shots as they did so. Officers arrived after she called to report the shots, and the fact that Read was still armed. Read admitted to police that his intention was to shoot the moon, not harm anyone, the Daily Courier added. Another thing he reportedly admitted doing before setting his sights on space: smoking pot.
A rep for the Prescott Valley Police Department says Read initially refused to leave the house, which he reportedly damaged before police coaxed him outside. He then resisted arrest and had to be taken into custody by force. What one gets for shooting at the moon? An inside look at Yavapai County Jail, one count each of unlawful discharge of a firearm and resisting arrest, and two counts of endangerment—all felonies—among other charges. (In other lunar news, a nagging mystery about the dark side of the moon has been solved.)
