Mitt Romney not only disagrees with the Republican establishment on the need to raise the minimum wage, he thinks the GOP is hurting its own future by opposing the idea, reports the LA Times. "I part company with many of the conservatives in my party on the issue," he said on MSNBC's Morning Joe, as quoted by USA Today. "I think we ought to raise it." Romney said the party risks losing even more ground with black and Hispanic voters. "Our party is all about more jobs and better pay, and I think communicating that is important to us," he said.
Senate Republicans recently shot down legislation that would have raised the federal minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10 an hour, agreeing with business leaders that the move would hurt companies and actually reduce the number of jobs available in the long run. Romney disagrees, though as a presidential candidate, he said he didn't see the need for such an increase. On that note, he reiterated today that "I'm not running for president in 2016."
