If you thought your parents were upset to learn you got a tattoo, well, Naomi Coleman can one-up you in the tattoo story department. Her arrest, and that of a man whose own mom wouldn't pay his fake ransom, make this week's list of weird crimes:
- Woman's Buddha Tattoo Gets Her Arrested: A British woman learned the hard way that it's not a good idea to visit Sri Lanka if you have a visible Buddha tattoo. Police say tourist Naomi Michelle Coleman, 37, hurt "others' religious feelings," and arrested her over it.
- Guy Owes $489K Over Fake Emergency Call: When he was 19, Danik Kumar made a distress call that resulted in an unnecessary 21-hour, 70-person search on Lake Erie. The Ohio man, now 21, told emergency workers that, while flying a small plane, he'd spotted four people on a boat sending out flares. Seems that wasn't quite the case.
- Cops: Man Holds Self for Ransom, Unsuccessfully: Maybe the only thing worse than faking your own kidnapping and calling your mom for a ransom is discovering that your mom won't pay. A 25-year-old in Tennessee learned that lesson the hard way.
- Hidden in Mail Carrier's Dead Mom's House: Mail: A Kentucky mail carrier felt he was a little too busy to deliver all his mail and will spend six months in prison as a result. Authorities found about 45,000 pieces of mail set aside by William "Brent" Morse, hidden in not one but two locations.
- Woman Busted Peddling Heroin—From Her Hospital Bed: Lori Sullenberger allegedly wasn't going to let anything get in the way of her drug dealing—not even a stay in intensive care. Police say the 38-year-old Pennsylvania woman went into the hospital April 14 and hospital staff noticed, as a hospital spokesperson puts it, "an exorbitant amount of foot traffic happening to a patient's room." Police soon found out why.
