Are police reopening the case of Kurt Cobain's death? Media reports out of Seattle this morning indicated as much, as KIRO 7 reported that police had developed four previously unseen rolls of film that had been sitting in the evidence vault since the Nirvana frontman's death. Police said that despite years of deterioration, the film presented a clearer look at the scene than earlier Polaroids from investigators. The network also reported that needles from Cobain's heroin kit were part of the "re-investigation." But a detective tells the Seattle Post-Intelligencer that the photos contain nothing suggesting Cobain's death was anything other than a suicide, and that the case hasn't been re-opened.

"Not even close," said Det. Renee Witt. She explains further to the Seattle Times that a cold-case detective looked again at the evidence in anticipation of the 20th anniversary of Cobain's death and found nothing of note. The new photos are "underwhelming," she added, but some will indeed be released for the first time. Police are not the only ones looking back at the rock icon's life. A crowdfunding campaign is attempting to buy Cobain's childhood home and turn it into a museum, Rolling Stone reports. (More Kurt Cobain stories.)
