It looks like Tokyo police have caught the person responsible for damaging hundreds of books related to the Holocaust and Anne Frank, including her diary, but not much is known about the suspect's background or motive. Authorities have identified him only as an unemployed 36-year-old man, reports the BBC. Police say he has admitted vandalizing books in stores and libraries over the last several weeks, though it's unclear whether he had any help.

Surveillance video shows him at the scene of several of the incidents, and he was apparently spotted putting up presumably anti-Semitic fliers, reports Rocket News 24, which rounds up accounts in Japanese media outlets. In a not-so surprising development, those accounts suggest that the suspect "appears to be mentally unstable." More than 300 books have been damaged in the vandalism spree, and Israel's embassy in Japan is donating replacements. (More Anne Frank stories.)
