5 Craziest Crimes of the Week
Dorian Lee Harper was arrested Friday, Nov. 15, 2013 after a foster child was found cuffed by the ankle to his partner's front porch in Monroe, NC, with a dead chicken around his neck.   (AP Photo/Union County, N.C. Sheriff's Office)

It was a week of high-profile crimes, with the stabbing of Va. state Sen. Creigh Deeds and yet another arrest for George Zimmerman. But off the front page, a number of equally tragic and bizarre crimes:

  1. Police Find Boy Cuffed With Dead Chicken on Neck: A neighbor sums up the situation: "That's some sick people." An animal control deputy responding to concerns about a pig on the loose in Union County, NC, found something far more horrifying: a boy, 11, handcuffed to a porch, with a dead chicken wrapped around his neck.
  2. After 396 Arrests, She Promises to Avoid No. 397: It's hard to fathom, but a Chicago woman has managed to get herself arrested 396 times in the last 35 years. This week, 52-year-old Shermain Miles got released from jail to a residential home for ex-cons, and she had this to say.

  1. SF Woman Murdered Over Parking Lot Fender Bender: Melquiesha Warren was celebrating her wife's 28th birthday, four days before her own 24th birthday, at a San Francisco nightclub early Sunday when a minor fender bender turned deadly.
  2. Dad Allegedly Posted Photos of Child, Murdered Her: Before he allegedly shot his 19-month-old daughter and then himself, Merrick McKoy went on Facebook. There were three posts made right before police heard gunshots inside, the first of which is shocking.
  3. Angry Seniors Suspected in Spray-Paint Vandalism: More fodder for jokes about Florida seniors. A resident of a 55-and-older community in Vero Beach discovered that some apparently ticked-off neighbor or neighbors spray-painted both his cars with a crystal-clear message.
