Guardian, Under Siege, Teams With NYT on Snowden

The Guardian newspaper is taking so much harassment from the British government over its coverage of the Edward Snowden revelations that it has teamed up with the New York Times, reports Ben Smith at BuzzFeed. One apparent reason: The US has stronger protections of press freedom under the First Amendment. Expect collaborative stories in the coming weeks about how the NSA worked with its British counterpart on surveillance. Smith notes that Snowden opted not to go to the Times himself because he feared the newspaper would cave to government demands, and his account ends with this interesting quote from Times editor Jill Abramson: "My cell phone is not a secure line."
