Those in its path probably won't be surprised, but the monster tornado that whipped through Oklahoma last week was the widest ever measured by the National Weather Service, reports USA Today. Its span of 2.6 miles edged out a 2004 Nebraska tornado for the record. The tornado's winds of 295mph are second only to 300mph winds registered by a 1999 tornado in Oklahoma. Friday's storm near Oklahoma City came less than two weeks after another tornado killed 24 in the state. They both ranked as EF5 tornadoes, the most powerful level. (More tornado stories.)
