Tomas Plekanec netted two goals for the Montreal Canadiens to help the Habs beat the New York Islanders 3-1 at the Nassau Coliseum. The Islanders had just returned from a successful 2-1-2 road trip but look sluggish on their home ice; Cristobal Huet needed to stop only 17 shots to earn the victory. Richard Park scored the Islanders' lone tally, reports the Associated Press. Elsewhere in the NHL:

  • Washington’s Alexander Ovechkin scored on a third period power play to break a 2-2 tie with Ottawa. The Capitals won the game 4-2, sweeping the season series with the Senators.
  • Pascal Leclaire recorded 25 saves as Columbus beat Vancouver 3-2 and set a franchise record with their sixth consecutive home victory.
