The Pittsburgh Penguins continued their rampage through the NHL with a 4-1 win over the New York Rangers; the victory makes the Pens 9-0-1 in their last 10 games, the Associated Press reports. Pittsburgh was led by 21-year-old Evgeni Malkin, who had a hat trick less than two weeks after recording his first three-goal game on Jan. 3.
Equally as impressive as Malkin’s performance was that of Pittsburgh goaltender Ty Conklin, who stopped 43 shots and improved his season record to 10-0-1. The Penguins jumped out to an early lead on Malkin’s wrister just 3:31 into the contest; Pittsburgh would add two more first period goals. Sidney Crosby recorded two assists for Pittsburgh while Jaromir Jagr scored New York’s lone goal. (More NHL stories.)
