For the second straight night, Valtteri Filppula netted two goals, leading Detroit to a 4-2 victory over Colorado, the AP reports. The game put an end to an Avalanche home hot streak, and earned the Red Wings their 13th victory in the past 15 contests. Jiri Hudler and Mikael Samuelsson had Detroit's two other goals. Elsewhere in the NHL:

  • The Penguins rallied to overcome the Capitals, tying the game in the third period to force overtime. Sergei Gonchar's goal then put it away, 4-3.
  • Minnesota connected on three power play goals and goalie Niklas Backstrom had 46 saves as the Wild trumped the Coyotes 3-2. Backstrom's spectacular performance came a day after Minnesota allowed eight goals to Dallas.
