Jaromir Jagr scored his first goal in 11 games and veteran Brendan Shanahan had two assists, as New York defeated Carolina in a game that saw a little of everything, including a game misconduct to Rangers tough guy Colton Orr for an illegal hit that injured Carolina's Matt Cullen. The Rangers rallied with three goals in the third period. Elsewhere:

  • Pascal Leclaire got his seventh blanking of the season for the Blue Jackets, this one over visiting Atlanta 2-0. "It was a pretty quiet night tonight," said the NHL's leader in shutouts.
  • Matt Bradley's late goal was upheld after review giving Washington a 3-2 win over Tampa Bay on the day that Bruce Boudreau was named the team's permanent head coach.
