Mitt Romney appeared at a fundraiser with Donald Trump as he locked up the GOP nomination, but despite Trump's remarks to the media just hours earlier, neither man mentioned the "birther" issue, reports Bloomberg. Romney "is going to be a great president," Trump told hundreds of people gathered at his Las Vegas hotel. “He’s going to turn this country around. He’s going to create jobs like you haven’t seen for many, many years, since we were great."
Romney thanked Trump for his support. “We finally got there,” he said, calling the moment an “honor and a privilege, and a great responsibility." Reporters did find somebody willing to discuss birtherism: Newt Gingrich. "We believe this is an American-born, job-killing president," he said ahead of the fundraiser. "Other people may believe that he was born somewhere else and still kills jobs, but that's an argument over background." Newt said it wasn't racist to accuse Obama of being born in Kenya, and declined to say exactly when he would release his GOP convention delegates to Romney. (More Mitt Romney stories.)
