Surprise, Surprise: Romney Wins Kentucky, Arkansas

If you don't live in Kentucky or Arkansas, you're forgiven for forgetting that tonight is yet another primary night. Those two states went to the polls today, and Mitt Romney emerged victorious in both. The AP reports that he easily took Kentucky, along with all 42 of its delegates—Ron Paul placed second but was unable to win at least 15% of the vote, which is needed to grab delegates there. Romney also secured at least 21 of Arkansas' 33 delegates, putting him at 1,055 delegates by the AP's count. As previously reported, he won't hit the magic 1,144 number until next Tuesday's Texas primary.

As Southern voters weighed in, Romney was focusing on Northerners. He spent the evening at a fundraising event in New York where his campaign said he raised $5 million, bringing the total for his three-day fundraising swing in the New York area to $15 million. (More GOP primary stories.)
