Prime Sign of California Waste: Kangaroo Report

If Gov. Jerry Brown has his way, California's lawmakers will soon find themselves much less informed about pertinent topics like Australia's annual kangaroo harvest and the DOT's use of waste tires. Brown ordered that state agencies and departments be audited at the end of last year, and those audits turned up the kangaroo report (California's Department of Fish and Game is apparently tasked with tracking the data and providing it to lawmakers) along with 717 others Brown would like to deep-six in a bid to cut down on waste, reports the Sacramento Bee.

"It wastes a lot of time and money to write, track, and file these reports," he noted while unveiling his plan today. "Government should be focused on providing information that is actually helpful to taxpayers, not on checking boxes to meet outdated bureaucratic requirements." (More California stories.)
