Despite being outshot by a woeful margin, gutsy Edmonton halted Detroit's second seven-game win streak of the season in a 4-3 shootout. Oilers goalie Dwayne Roloson had to make 39 saves, compared with opposite number Dominik Hasek's paltry 22. Once at the one-on-one stage, Ales Hemsky shot the winner, giving him two goals on the day.

Edmonton improved to an absurd 9-1 in shootouts this year. Detroit's Henrik Zetterberg had two regulation goals but was turned away at the end; Red Wing Mark Hartigan notched his team's other tally. Joni Pitkanen and Fernando Pisani also had goals in regulation, during which the lead was never more than one. (More NHL stories.)
