Colbert Pens Children's Book
High praise from Maurice Sendak.   (Colbert Report)

Stephen Colbert's new book is all about a confused flagpole's search for an identity. Colbert—making good on a promise to get a piece of the celebrity-penned children's book market—will release I Am a Pole (And So Can You) this spring, AP reports. The satirist, who has returned to the Colbert Report after a brief hiatus, pitched the book idea during an interview with Maurice Sendak last month.

The interview was a hit, and fans pushed for a real book. The book is "terribly ordinary," Sendak says, but “the sad thing is I like it." Colbert said in a statement: "It's been a lifelong dream of mine to write a children’s book. I hope the minutes you and your loved ones spend reading it are as fulfilling as the minutes I spent writing it." His next book, America Again: Re-Becoming the Greatness We Never Weren’t, will be released this fall. (Read more Stephen Colbert stories.)
