How to be an ace tweeter? Megan Garber at the Atlantic pores over a new study and starts her lesson with what not to do. This would be "The Most Annoying Tweet Imaginable":
- "BREAKING: Last week I had a #sandwich that was SO HORRIBLE, it made me want to #scream. Seriously, why can't they make better #sandwiches?"
It's too long and too personal, writes Garber. It overuses hashtags, it's "aggressively mundane," and it's just plain "whiny." Twitter has evolved from the days when it was OK to tweet about your lunch "into something more crowd-conscious and curatorial," writes Garber. It is, in effect, a "real-time newswire," but we want it to do more than just inform us. Good tweets are "informative and funny" and do not tread in stale news or conventional wisdom. "So: Do be useful. Do be novel. Do be compelling. Do not, under any circumstances, be boring." And keep your lunch menu to yourself. Click here for the full piece, including the study's list of tips.
