Walmart Pulls Formula After Baby's Death

Walmart has pulled a batch of powdered infant formula from stores nationwide after the death of a newborn boy in Missouri. The retailer says customers who bought 12.5-ounce cans of Enfamil Newborn powder with the lot number ZP1K7G can return them for a refund or exchange. No government recall has been issued but Walmart says it is acting out of an "abundance of caution," the Lebanon Daily Star reports.

The boy, 10-day-old Avery Cornett, became gravely ill after being fed powder bought at a Walmart store and died from what doctors believe was a rare bacterial infection that can be caused by contaminated formula. Walmart and the powder's manufacturer say they are making every effort to aid health authorities in their investigation. (More Walmart stories.)
