The mysterious death of a University of Arkansas football player yesterday has the school in shock, reports the AP. Backup tight end Garrett Uekman was found unconscious in his dorm room yesterday morning, just an hour after his roommate had seen him playing video games. Emergency services workers said the 19-year-old was in cardiac arrest when they arrived; they rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead just after noon.

The Arkansas athletic director said Uekman did not have any known pre-existing health conditions. "Garrett Uekman was a special member of our family, and we are all saddened by his passing," said the team coach in a statement. "His loss is a terrible shock, and it makes you realize how precious life is." The school will hold a candlelight vigil in his memory this evening. (More Arkansas stories.)
