After a 15-2 start to the season, Ottawa has dropped five straight with last night's 6-5 loss to Nashville. Sloppy play saw the Senators waste the momentum of captain Daniel Alfredsson's tying goal, scored with less than a minute left in regulation, just 23 seconds after it crossed the goal line. Martin Erat scored the game winner for the Predators who improve to 12-9-2.

The losing streak and woeful play resemble the fractious '95/'96 season, Can West reports. That campaign saw a hat trick's worth of coaches rotate through, as well as two GM's. The Senators were plagued by turnovers and poor defense, compounded by the loss of defenseman Anton Volchenkov on a play within the first minute that lead to Nashville's first goal.
