The league's best team had no trouble against one of its worst, as Detroit coasted to a 3-0 lead en route to a 4-2 win. Tampa Bay's streak without a victory (0-5-1) hit six for the second time this season, and they were outshot an appalling 17-1 in the first period.

Overall, Marc Denis stopped 35 shots in the defeat, while his counterpart, Chris Osgood, had to divert a mere 21. Jiri Hudler opened the scoring in the first period and also had an assist. The Lightning fell to 5-20-2 against Detroit since 1992—1-10-1 in Joe Louis Arena. (More NHL stories.)
