More grim theories about the serial killer responsible for some eight bodies that have been found on an isolated Long Island beach: Police revealed over the weekend that the killer appears to be very familiar with law enforcement investigative techniques. Now ABC News reports that police are also considering other possibilities. The killer may have had some reason to visit the area where the bodies were dumped frequently as part of his work, sources say.

He "could be law enforcement, a civil servant, a code-enforcement person, a building inspector, a postman—or it could be anyone who knows the area quite well," says a former NYPD detective. Investigators also speculate that the killer may be linked to a spate of prostitute murders in New Jersey. The killer is likely intelligent and socially sophisticated, and lures his victims to one spot, murders them, then dumps their bodies elsewhere, say detectives.
