It’s not every day that a Hollywood studio buys the rights to a New York Times article, but that’s what Summit Entertainment—the studio best known for the Twilight films—has just done. Summit, along with Participant Media and Imagenation Abu Dhabi, has just picked up the rights to Deepwater Horizon’s Final Hour, an epic, 8,500-word story that examines in excruciating detail the explosion that sparked last year’s Gulf oil spill disaster, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

“This film will portray the great heroism that took place last year on the Deepwater Horizon rig,” Summit’s president says. “This piece in The New York Times evoked the raw emotion these brave men experienced and endured throughout the tragedy.” Participant was a natural partner, as its films are all tied to social action and advocacy programs.
