Rahm: 'We Will Prevail'

For someone who just got kicked off the Chicago mayoral ballot, Rahm Emanuel is sounding pretty optimistic, saying that despite the setback, he's confident of winning his appeal in the state's highest court. "I have no doubt that in the end we will prevail in this effort," Emanuel said. But with just four weeks remaining until the election, Emanuel's three opponents are taking advantage of the disruption to his campaign's sense of inevitable victory, the Chicago Tribune reports.

His campaign may be taking an officially confident stance, but Emanuel is also attempting to downplay the decision by simply changing the subject: "This is a big election ... that will determine the city's future," he says. And at least one prominent Democrat in his corner wasn't so optimistic: "This was a terrible day for the Rahm campaign," said the official. The setback could affect early voting, which starts Monday, as well as absentee voting—Emanuel's name won't appear on ballots until the state's Supreme Court rules otherwise.
