Moscow Blast Exposes Airport Security Holes

The days when you could just turn up and walk straight into an airport arrival hall could soon be history, analysts warn. Airports around the world are boosting security in their arrivals areas in response to yesterday's airport bombing in Moscow that killed at least 35 people, reports CNN. Arrivals halls are attractive targets for terrorists, security experts say, because they have lower security and are much more densely packed than departure areas.

"Security will be increased absolutely everywhere," said one expert. But the editor of Aviation Security International warns against adding yet more levels of airport security as a knee-jerk response to the Moscow attack. "Passenger profiling is the only proven method of countering the threat to aviation," he said, adding that security should look out "for people that don't fit in, that seem to be out of place."
