Israel Uses Facebook To Catch Draft Dodgers

Women of Israel, think twice before you make that Facebook post: The Israeli military says it has caught more than 1,000 female draft dodgers by monitoring their Facebook pages. In Israel, military service is compulsory for both genders, but Jewish women can be exempted for religious reasons. Except, say, if they get busted updating on the Sabbath or posting photos of themselves with a menu from a non-kosher restaurant (true stories).

Military investigators accumulated evidence against at least 1,000 women who were lying about their religious observance based on their usage of Facebook. All those who were found to be lying to avoid conscription were returned to duty. Read the full article. (More Israel stories.)
