Giants Headed to World Series
Umpires try to keep teams separated as both benches clear during the third inning of Game 6 of baseball's National League Championship Series between the Philadelphia Phillies and the San Francisco Giants Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, in Philadelphia.    (Matt Slocum)

The San Francisco Giants let it go right down to the wire last night, with Juan Uribe hitting a tie-breaking home-run with two outs in the eighth to hold off the Phillies and gain a World Series berth for the first time since 2002. "We had such a diversity of contributions from everybody," Giants manager Bruce Bochy tells the AP. "Not bad for a bunch of castoffs and misfits."

Phillies slugger Ryan Howard struck out with two runners on to end the game. "Right now it's heaven, but it was torture for that final strike," Giants first baseman Aubrey Huff said. The Giants, without a Series victory since moving to San Francisco in 1958, open Game 1 against the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night. (More World Series stories.)
