Jon Stewart pulled no punches in an occasionally cringe-worthy interview with Larry King last night, telling the departing host that his network was awful. “You’re the last guy out of a burning building, my friend,” Stewart said to open the interview. “By the way, I think they made a brilliant choice by bringing on a British guy that no one’s heard of.” Later (at about the 21:45 mark in the CNN video) King asked why Stewart “picked on CNN so much.” Stewart replied: “You’re terrible.”
After clarifying that he didn’t mean King personally, he said. “CNN has an opportunity to be a real arbiter. But being a real arbiter means taking a stand, not just having people on—you’re on the left, you’re on the right.” Believe it or not, he seemed to compare them unfavorably to Fox News, which he called “brilliantly authoritative. They know what they’re doing, people would take well to heed how tenacious they are. … I think they’re wrong, but I appreciate that they’re trying.” To read about King's gift to Stewart, click here.
