It's become clear in his third NHL season Alexander Ovechkin is an elite goal scorer, but what isn’t so obvious is how his presence improves the players around him. Capitals captain Chris Clark hadn’t scored all year until he was moved back to Ovechkin’s line, and he ended up netting two in a 5-3 Washington win over the Tampa Bay Lightning, reports the Washington Post.

Washington scored goals one minute and one second apart to snap a 1-1 tie in the second period. Ovechkin scored an empty-netter to seal the victory. Olie Kolzig’s 27 saves helped end the Capitals' four-game losing streak, in which the team had been out scored 17-7. Tampa Bay star winger Martin St. Louis scored a goal in the losing effort.
