Good Luck Finding a Sports Bra That Works

Scientists are finally realizing what women everywhere already know: Sports bras, specifically designed to be supportive, aren’t actually all that supportive. This is because women’s breasts don’t just bounce up and down: They move in a figure-8 pattern, researchers have found, and current sports bras can’t control that movement. The kinda good news? An experimental bra that elevates the breasts with foam pads appears to work quite well…but it’s not on the market, the New York Times reports.

Non-supportive bras aren’t just uncomfortable; they can be dangerous, leading to increased stress-related injuries in runners. And if you wear a D-cup or larger, it’s even more difficult to find a bra that works. Until the ideal bra hits stores, one scientist offers quite possibly the most obvious advice in history: Find a bra that “feels supportive” by jumping “up and down in the changing room.”
