SC Cop Fired After Breaking Handcuffed Inmate's Leg

Hit unresisting prisoner 27 times with baton

Generally if you're a cop, hitting an unresisting prisoner's leg with your baton—even pausing to get a bigger baton—27 times until it breaks isn't the best career move, to say the least. Especially if you do it on videotape. South Carolina deputy Oddie Tribble has been relieved of duty after last week's "disturbing" beating was caught on tape and Charles Shelley required stitches and treatment for a broken leg, reports the AP. An investigation is ongoing into whether Shelley's civil rights were violated, and whether other deputies on the scene should be punished for not intervening. Watch the video at left.
