California tries to shame tax delinquents into paying up by posting names

The California Franchise Tax Board has published a list of 224 of the worst tax dodgers in hopes that public humiliation will succeed where strongly worded warning letters have failed in collecting big tax debts. The list includes OJ Simpson, with a debt of $1.4 million, and singer Dionne Warwick ($2.7 million), reports the Los Angeles Times.

The state controller is optimistic about this new strategy, hoping that the tax debtors share his desire not "to be on a list with OJ." He may be right. The  list brought in $300,000 from 26 scofflaws even before it even went public. (More Dionne Warwick stories.)
