A  nude chocolate Christ, sans loincloth, was pulled from a midtown Manhattan gallery yesterday after torrent of complaints from offended Catholics . Bill Donohue, head of the watchdog Catholic League, which orchestrated the protest, said the sculpture, intended for display during Holy Week,  was "one of the worst assaults on Christian sensibilities ever."

The sculpture is the work of Cosimo Cavallaro, whose past projects included repainting a Manhattan hotel room in melted mozzarella, and spraying five tons of pepper jack cheese on a Wyoming home. The president of the hotel housing the gallery cancelled the show; the gallery's creative director resigned in protest. (More Catholic Church stories.)
