Cops Reopen Gore Sexual Assault Case

Police in Portland, Oregon are taking another look at allegations that Al Gore sexually assaulted a masseuse in 2006. Portland police had earlier said they wouldn't reopen the case unless new evidence surfaced, and no reason was given for today's decision, CNN reports. Masseuse Molly Hagerty has told police she was repeatedly subjected to unwanted sexual "touching" by Gore in his hotel room.

The former vice president broke his silence on the case yesterday, issuing a firm denial. Further investigation "will only benefit Mr. Gore," a Gore spokeswoman said. "The Gores cannot comment on every defamatory, misleading and inaccurate story generated by tabloids. Mr. Gore unequivocally and emphatically denied this accusation when he first learned of its existence three years ago. He stands by that denial."
