Poll sees Clinton KO'd by Giuiliani, McCain; Obama fairs better

The smart money says the 2008 election is the Democrats' to lose,  but a surprising Time poll has the Democratic front runners narrowly losing to the Repubican front runners in hypothetical head-to-head match-ups. Hillary Clinton loses to John McCain 42%-48%, and to Rudy Giuliani 41%-50%. Obama, behind Clinton in the polls, fares better: 43%-45% to McCain, 44%-45% to Giuliani.

"Giuliani and McCain both have an independent streak that plays well in certain traditional Democratic bastions,” explains Time pollster Mark Schulman. John Edwards, meanwhile, has new traction since his announcement of his wife’s recurrence of cancer. He’s still third, but his share of Democrat votes surged from 17% to 26%.
