Murdoch to Block Search Behind New Paywall

The Times of London and Sunday Times aren't just going behind a paywall, they're going behind a pay fortress. The papers won't allow their stories to appear on Google or any other search engines, paidContent.org reports. Search engines will have access only to their homepages. Nor will there be any free stories or even preview snippets for customers. If you hit a story page, you'll just be greeted by a login box.

All of which makes the Wall Street Journal , another walled-off paper owned by Rupert Murdoch, look downright open. “We're completely unashamed about this,” says the Times ' executive editor. “We're trying to get people to pay for the journalism.” The sites have already launched their new, redesigned edition, and should be in pay-only mode within about a month. They'll cost $1.43 per day, or $2.86 per week, with the latter auto-renewing. (More Times of London stories.)
