On the seventh day, Elena Kagan did not rest: The pint-size solicitor general dominated the Sunday shows today, with key Republican Jeff Sessions saying, "She has so little other record" that her coming testimony "is going to be a big deal." Newt Gingrich was disgusted with Kagan's military stance, Politico reports: "We're in two wars, and I see no reason to appoint an anti-military Supreme Court justice." But Jon Kyl thinks the filibuster is for "extraordinary circumstances," and Kagan won't "represent that."

  • On the Dems' side, Dianne Feinstein (who incidentally is Jewish) pooh-poohed the addition of a third Jewish justice, calling them "total people."
  • Oh, and Laura Bush? "I think it's great. I like to have women on the Supreme Court."
  • On to Utah: Don't read too much into Bob Bennett's loss at the GOP convention there. It was the process, he tells State of the Union, though, "Obviously there's something going on in the country as a whole” that makes incumbents vulnerable.
  • Financial reform is coming "next week or following week," says Judd Gregg.
